DHL is a courier company that is globally trusted and used by people who want to send parcels and goods from one part of the world to another. DHL has many offices in Nigeria and throughout the world and you can use their services to do a lot of things such as sending important documents, letters, goods and so on. They can ship your goods both locally and internationally and can use either air or ships to offer you their service.

Although, there are many ways to ship goods within and from outside Nigeria, DHL does offer a great service although it may be a bit expensive but you can cut down you costs using smart shipping.

Tips for reducing cost when shipping with DHL
- Ship in bulk for small sized items
- Weight does matter. Cost are based on kg

So assuming you want to maybe ship memory cards or mobile phone accessories that may weigh about 0.1kg, then it's best to buy more to make it up to 1kg since you will be charged a standard charge per kg.

Personal experience
I normally prefer using DHL to ship some computer accessories from USA to Nigeria after doing my online shopping from US stores but I normally do that if an item I want to buy is not already available in the Nigerian market. There are certain goods or quality goods you may want to buy but since they are not available or too expensive in Nigeria, you would be better off buying them in bulk and shipping to Nigeria using DHL.

Another thing I use DHL to buy are laptops and this is due to the fact that some laptops may be way overpriced in Nigeria so when I want to buy a good quality laptop, it would only cost an additional 7000 to 10,000 to get it to Nigeria outside the original listed price on US stores.

How it works
Once someone like a merchant or friend sends a parcel o you using DHL, he gives you a tracking number to know when it will arrive
- You can track the parcel by going to the DHL website
- Once it arrives your country, it goes for custom clearing
- After clearing, it goes to the delivery facility
- From the facility, it gets sent by the mobile courier
- Once the status says with delivery courier, then expect the delivery that same day

Some tips
- International shipping with DHL costs about $50 per kg
- USA to Nigeria takes about 3 to 5 days
- If you get an invitation by the dhl due to a delay on your parcel, you should go with proper documentation and proof of ownership.

When making shoppings online is there any point where one is asked to fill the courier service he/she wants or will they automatically refer one to any courier service.

If you are shipping to a us address for later shipping to Nigeria, you can choose whether to ship with fedex or dhl but if shopping directly from that site they choose which means to ship to you but it's mostly dhl for international shipping
