If you are one of those who want to enter into the business of importing items from China without actually travelling to China or sending money via a third party, one way you can easily get those same goods to Nigeria is by taking advantage of online shopping sites from China which offer direct shipping to Nigeria.

Although there are many ways to shop online from China in Nigeria such as using a mail forwarding and shipping address, receiving shipments via cargo and so on, nothing for now beats being able to shop from the comfort of your home, using the internet and getting your items shipped to Nigeria.

One website that offers to sell a couple of Chinese products and allows you to buy them directly with shipping to Nigeria is www.aliexpress.com.

Aliexpress.com is a great website owned by Alibaba.com and you know Alibaba.com is also a website where buyers and sellers meet to trade but the thing About Aliexpress.com is that it is better suited for Nigeria shoppers who want to buy from China and this can help reduce your shipping costs unlike if you were shipping from countries like the USA or UK.

Comparing with retail sites like Amazon.com
Shipping costs: They are traditionally lower for most electronic products with Aliexpress.com than compared to Amazon.com

Wholesale discounts: Aliexpress.com offers both retail and wholesale products and they normally give discount when you are purchasing in bulk and this is a good option for small businesses who are seeking to import bulk items from China to resell in Nigeria.

Variety of products: Amazon.com offers a much wider variety of goods than compared to Aliexpress.com

Affordability: Aliexpress.com has a wide range of goods including cheap mini laptops from China whihc you can buy for below $100( or less than N14,000).

How it works:
If you intend being a buyer with this website, here is what the process involves:
- Search for products you want to buy
- Click on checkout
- Make payment by escrow or credit card
- Receive shipment within 7 days
- Confirm receipt of goods
- Payment is released to buyer

Things you will need to start shopping with Aliexpress.com
- A credit card
- Internet access
- Aliexpress.com buyer account

The company will pay for everything and then ship it to you. You will then pay for it with a credit card when placing your order

Maybe you should focus on the ones that offer shipping to Nigeria. You can only use western union to receive money in Nigeria and not send money as far as I know

Re: Buying from China with Shipping to Nigeria Reply by Felix Okoli on Sunday May 20, 2012 at 19:50:42:

They ship directly to your address and some goods may require the payment of custom duties.

ok thank you. i guess i pay customs duty if shipped by EMS but i dont if by DHL? how does the customs thing work, i hope its not alot of money. can u estimate a range. i just ordered jewelry(7pieces like $15) just to test. please you feedback will be really helpful. tahnk you again

Re: Buying from China with Shipping to Nigeria Reply by Felix Okoli on Thursday May 24, 2012 at 23:0:37:

Actually, you really have no business paying custom duty since you've paid for a courier service to deliver to your home in Nigeria. I'm just saying there could be times when DHL/UPS may contact you for further clearing purposes(Not sure it's legal). The courier services are really the ones who have to pay the custom duty since you've already paid them in advance but at times when you are importing some significant items, there may be custom clearing delay and you may be contacted.
If you are shipping items worth below $100 or $200, you shouldn't worry about it.

What if Aliexpress defaults, say for instance, I didn't get my goods, who do I hold responsible?

Re: Buying from China with Shipping to Nigeria Reply by Felix on Friday June 29, 2012 at 12:20:17:

That's part of the risk of international online shopping. They hardly default though since you will receive the goods from the seller before telling aliexpress to pay them the money. Aliexpress will hold your money in escrow and will not release it to the seller until you confirm receipt of goods.

Felix, alibaba.com recommend some supplier to me but we hav communocated through mail were by they send type of laptops product they hav in store and i requested for samble. They ask me pay the order with western union, T/T directly to them b4 them ship to me through dhl. In nigeria this payment does wrk in this
country. Pls advice me what to do?

Re: Buying from China with Shipping to Nigeria Posted by Felix Okoli on Saturday May 10, 2014 at 10:11:23:

Never send any money through western Union. Alibaba has their own internal means of making payment. They have an escrow system that allows you to pay Alibaba directly and when you receive the goods, Alibaba will then pay the seller. This is to protect you as a buyer.

Hi Felix, this is an awesome post, it has shed light on a lot of my fears about aliexpress.
A quick one though: a store I purchased an item from on Aliexpress advised me to declare my item lower ($100), will I need to pay any custom charge whatsoever?

Re: Buying from China with Shipping to Nigeria Reply by Felix Okoli on Thursday August 21, 2014 at 14:25:6:

You won't have to pay custom duty for small items under $100. However, I hear NIPOST now collects N500 as handling charge even for small parcels.

Please how do u pay with western union

Re: Buying from China with Shipping to Nigeria Reply by Felix Okoli on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at 23:51:57:

Well, you just have to select that option when checking out with Aliexpress. However I'm not sure Western Union is an option for Nigeria buyers since I'm not sure outbound money transfers are possible for now with WU. If it's possible, then you can simply pay by sending it to Aliexpress's account to be held in escrow on behalf of the seller.

PLS SIR,

I JUST MADE AN ORDER FROM ALIEXPRESS TO BE DELIVERED VIA EMS, BUT THE SELLER TOLD ME THAT EMS CANNOT DELIVER TO NIGEERIA. THEY ARE SAYING THAT ITS DHL THAT CAN DELIVER WITH. THEY ARE ASKING ME TO PAY AN EXTRA 35 DOLLARS FOR DELIVERY FEE. I HAVE ALLREADY PAID 47 DOLLARS FOR DELIVERY THROUGH EMS,

PLEASE WHAT DO I DO?

Re: Buying from China with Shipping to Nigeria Reply by Felix Okoli on Thursday December 3, 2015 at 11:58:23:

Don't pay any extra money. As long as you paid the money through Aliexpress, wait for your order and if it doesn't get delivered within 60 days, you can file for a refund before the end of that 60 day or your buyer protection period. It could be a fraudulent seller. Never pay any money outside the Aliexpress website. If the seller made an initial offer with EMS, then you can hold them to that agreement. If you can, please share the website link on Aliexpress where the offer was made.
