Unreliable power supply is one of the factors affecting businesses in Nigeria. If you want to run a successful business in Nigeria, you need to think of ones you can do with or without NEPA because you should never expect power always. Forget that they have changed their name to PHCN, we still know them as Nepa or just power holders that are not efficient at supplying electricity.

Here are a couple of businesses or products that thrive in the absence of electricity

- Rechargeable batteries
- Laptop batterries
- Inverters
- Solar energy products
- Ice block production
- Generator sales, service and repairs
- Farming

And besides, Jonathan has already told us not to expect reliable power like Ghana's for up to 5 years and that would probably mean that his administration cannot guarantee steady power.

So, if you are going to run a business in Nigeria, either invest in businesses that doesn't need electricity or be ready to use a 24 hr alternative source of power to run it. Think of GSM masts across Nigeria, they mostly run of 24 hr generators that keep running. That is the reality of doing business in Nigeria. You mostly need a 24 hr running power generator.
