Do you know that a lot of these Otigba boys make thousands of money monthly because they have skills that most other Nigerians don't have. I;m talking about the technicians who don't really sell any product at the computer village but all they have is their skill and this can bring them up to N20,000 daily and I'm not just talking.

There is a lot going on at the Computer village Ikeja but the people that make cool money are the ones who just have their tool box and skills to offer repair services for your mobile phones or laptops. There is practically nothing they can't repair and as long as the parts are available, they can make your gadget look brand new too.

Where did they learn how to repair phones and laptops?
They simply went to school. I'm not talking about formal schools like universities and polytechnics and although some of them may have gone there, those higher institutions don't really teach people how to repair mobile phones. When I say school, I mean they underwent some kind of informal training either by undergoing training with another technician or doing self training.

How do you make money with this?
You can simply start making your own money from repairing or serving mobile phones and laptops in Nigeria by getting trained yourself. If you are a quick learner and have the resources, you can teach yourself by making use of the limitless resources available on the internet. Technicians vary from person to person and what someone can do may not be possible to another one. Even if it is just removing old phone screens and putting on new ones, you can make quite a lot of money, even at home. Technicians who repair phones charge between N500 to N1000 for their service and most of them would tell you that is their flat fee even before starting to work on your phone. Those who repair laptops charge for a registration fee just to accept your laptop and analyse the problem with it. The good thing is that this business is not even saturated as a lot of people who look for gadget repairers far outweigh the service providers. Those technicians have too many jobs on their hands and at times can work on up to ten phones a day which gives them over N10,000. SO you see, if you can really be good at it, you can make real money. There are too many Nigerians who want their gadgets to be repaired for even small issues such as microphone, voice, screen, browsing, covers and others.
Mobile phones and laptops are not that complex as people think they are so if you can get trained at this, you can really make a lot of money from it and even if you don't want to do it as a business, you can do it for yourself just to avoid having to pay other people to repair them for you.

Laptop and Mobile phone repair/service business is booming in Nigeria
The demand for the servie far outweighs the supply and even GSM companies are not really into this business and so it has become a big opportunity for most technicians setting up offices at the computer village and other places. You can set up a simple office for yourself and offer the service. You may decide to offer a single service or a whole range of services and you would still make good money with it.

How to get trained as a mobile phone or laptop technician
- Self training
This can be done by reading books, searching the internet or even watching Videos on Youtube on how to do it. There are a lot of tutorials on Youtube that teach how to do basic gadget repairs. - Learning from experts
This just involves studying how other experts or technicians are already doing it and learning yourself. It takes time and you may have to pay others to teach you.
