In our world of today, one of the most intelligent forms of business you can do for the long term is food packaging.

The world needs food, now more than ever, with an increasing global population and threat of global warming, food business really does makes sense.

In this form of business, we are not really concerned about producing foods that last for a day but packaging foods that can last for months or at least a year.

There are many successful companies in Nigeria that are going into food packaging business as they see it more profitable. Even some health care pharmaceutical companies are also now diversifying into food processing and packaging.

An example of a food product is the noodles and we have brands such as Mimee, Indomie, Dangote and so on. What they basically do is make use of wheat, process it and then package it such that it would be ready to eat after a brief cooking. I am still wondering why they haven't started using cassava to make noodles.

There are a lot of foods stuffs in Nigeria which can be successfully packaged and branded and then sold. Problem we seem to have is that a lot of people are knowledgeable about farming but only know little about food storage by packaging.

Even foodstuffs like tomatoes, pepper, cassava, yam and plantain can all be packaged and sold at a much better price than they were bought from farmers. Some companies now sell packaged tomatoes in form of tomato paste satchets.

If you want to get involved in a food packaging business, you may need to get connected with the food source such as farmers.

Things food packaging industry normally requires:
==============
- Sourcing for raw food
- Factory setup
- Machines
- Processing
- Quality control
- NAFDAC registration
- Branding

Some processed and packaged food products that are hot sellers in Nigeria includes plantain chips, chin chin, groundnuts and noodles.
